Dr. Corey Riser, D.C., C.F.M.P.

Dr. Corey Riser has spent almost a decade practicing as a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner with over 300 hours of post-doctoral Functional Endocrinology and Clinical Nutrition education.

Originally from Zanesville, Ohio, Dr. Riser began his work in alternative medicine through his award-winning Undergraduate Thesis study on Bacteriophage Therapy of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) as a preferred treatment method over traditional antibiotics.

While attending graduate school, Dr. Riser’s passion for alternative medicine developed after the passing of his grandmother, mother, and father in a two-year span. He watched as conventional medicine treatment with drug therapy and a lack of nutritional guidance continued time and time again to fail his family members and ultimately led to untimely deaths. It was at this time that he redirected his efforts toward Functional Medicine education.

In 2017, Dr. Riser founded Functional Health Center of the Carolinas, a highly regarded Functional Medicine clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina. It has quickly become one of the most sought after “Chronic Disease Reversal” clinics in the region.

As the Founder, the focus of Dr. Riser’s practice is primarily Functional Medicine treatment of Type II Diabetes, Thyroid Disorders, Cognitive Decline, and Autoimmune disease. Dr. Riser has made it a priority to help the Carolina region combat a devastatingly high incidence of chronic disease and obesity through Functional Medicine and nutraceutical interventions. As such, Dr. Riser has treated and helped thousands of patients regain their health.

Michael J. Wines, M.S., C.F.M.P.

Clinic Director
Before becoming one of Charlotte’s few Certified Functional Medicine Practitioners, Mike began his career coaching at the highest levels of collegiate and professional sport but eventually found his passion and purpose in a different calling – integrative medicine.

During his graduate education, Mike continually found himself frustrated with the lack of integration he witnessed amongst medical professionals in the world of sport. The conventional medical model could only offer limited solutions and left many frustrated.

After being exposed to the power of functional medicine in his own life, Mike saw an immense opportunity to integrate functional medicine within the world of sport to provide an unprecedented level of individualization.

Mike has spent the last 6 years mentoring alongside some of the best clinicians in functional medicine and plans to continue his education with additional graduate work in the future.

Dani Adames

Patient Care Coordinator
Danielle, or Dani as she goes by, has had a love of wellness since she could walk. As a child, she fell in love with dancing and being active, which led to her teen years spending 40+ hours a week in the studio perfecting her art. She has explored all aspects of the health field ranging from weight training to fitness competitions, to training with the Rockettes in NYC, and becoming a certified barre instructor. She graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelors in Pre-Medical Studies and Exercise Science where her hopes were to become a Navy Doc and make real changes in the lives of those currently serving as well as veterans. This was extremely important to her as her husband is a Marine vet and they have experienced first-hand the frustrations of the healthcare systems in place for those who have served.

However, God had other plans for her, and she welcomed her first child with her husband in March of 2018, and her second in October of 2020. It was throughout this new role in parenthood that Dani started recognizing the importance of how what we put in and, on our body, truly impacts our health. She fell in love with understanding how the body flourishes when you know how to fuel it properly. Helping others feel this exact same way is something she is extremely passionate about, which is what ultimately led her to Functional Health Center of the Carolinas. She is eager to meet you all, facilitate your transition into your health journey, and answer any questions you may have along the way!
